Next Big Thing SuperSession
Thursday, January 8, 2009, 3-4 p.m. PST
Las Vegas Convention Center
North Hall, Room N255
We think a "Life in the Cloud" is the next big thing. Consider the concept of "The Cloud" to represent the Internet, then imagine the possibilities of cloud computing, essentially storing all of your data remotely, making it accessible from anywhere: How will people take advantage of this high-concept approach to a life of streaming data and offsite storage? How will service providers respond? And what's required to make the population comfortable with security measures put in place?
In the 6th annual Next Big Thing SuperSession, we will discuss the evolution of the services that will make it possible to untether oneself from a desktop, the portable devices that will carry data or act as the terminals to an online life, and the bandwidth that's needed in order to access personal information anywhere we are.
Next Big Thing Polls
DEVICES
To truly reap the advantages of a life in cloud computing, people need to have ready access to easy-to-use devices. With the multitude of mobile devices available--and ready to take advantage of what life in the cloud offers--which will be readily adopted by the average consumer?
SERVICES
The first red flag raised when considering a life in the cloud is security. With identity theft already a major concern, how is the average person expected to trust the protective measures for online services? Are certain services considered more trustworthy than others?
BROADBAND
If you want to rely on Web-based applications that live 'in the cloud' you need reliable bandwidth. If you don't have enough bandwidth you're limited on how much you can use a service, or even whether you can use it at all! So what available and viable solutions exist?
