So let me get this straight punisher1001, your just a boring person in an "exciting" state? Or just a person in an "excited state" that plays boring video games?
Personally, most of the nitwits on XBL are 12 yr old Brits.

I surprised no one mentioned Baumol's Disease, which in some way contradicts Ford. The premise is that efficiencies and productivity in the service and technology businesses becomes increasingly difficult, i.e. you run a restaurant, you can accept orders through Twitter or get a better oven etc, but ultimately you can't get rid of waiters. Whereas in manufacturing, you can modify assembly lines or change fab methods or Just-in-time shipping etc and layoff thousands.
The point is that Capitalism is what will stop his scenario not the cause. If the State gets involved they will force companies to make poor choices (for short term benefit, short term as in decades), as the unions in cahoots with the government did to the auto industry.
Capitalism constantly looks for a need to fill, perhaps it will become more "frivolous" i.e. better ice cream or more extreme i.e. mining the moon for ore.

Ahh CBS, that explains the consistent anti-capitalist bent on all stories economic or political!
What's with the flippant Marxist "update" at the end of the article? I guarantee Paczkowski makes too much money for what he does, he should contribute half of his salary to the janitor, I 'm sure he deserves it more!

This makes less sense everyday. First of all, the biggest competitor is not online services but Fios/Cable's OnDemand. Most of the most popular shows are already available on demand. Pricewise, why bother when you only pay about $40 for cable anyways in a bundle package.
Plus, personally iTunes is a curse on most Windows machines. I look forward to Windows Media Center doing the same thing through our XBox360.

Wii's success has been impressive, but as the father of two boys (one teenager) I'm glad we bought the 360. All of their friends that have Wii's (Revolution was a better name btw) seem to regret it. In our area not many people have PS3's as they all want XBox Live.
I saw the video of the new XBox technology and it is impressive.

I had a problem too, once I unhooked all of my extra drives and stripped down the install it went swimmingly. Still an unacceptable problem that I had, but one that very few will encounter. In reply to: "Results of the Windows 7 upgrade poll"

I'm sure it's all about image marketing. MS has never had to do that, or at least for a long time, and it's probably a good idea. I.e. Zune, like Apple, the Zune has poor penetration in traditional retail markets, and it will give people a chance to see it. In reply to: "Microsoft aims to match Cupertino's retail glitz"

Those kind of comments crack me up. I had someone say (for using a projector) that we should get a Mac because they have better graphics! I then pointed out that almost all Macs and Pc's use either Nvidia or Ati graphics and they are in fact equal in their graphics abilities (depending on the card, of course their are boatloads of options with PC's).
Forget about top shelf software, how about Quickbooks (at least properly) or FedEx?
The whole "look at all the cool things my computer can do (but I never will need to)!" nonsense is a bit tiring with Apple as well. Don't get me wrong, unlike some of the driveling Marxists that posted earlier, I think it's great that Apple has a market, they produce a great product and make lots of money for their stockholders.

I don't quite understand the cost savings as some have mentioned as well. My bill for cable is about $45 a month for the standard package with FIOS and two boxes (it's cheaper because we have phone and internet as well). If I have to pay for two or three shows a week that's at least what I pay now. I can now order movies on demand, through the xbox, (amazon works horribly it is a drm nightmare ). Or better yet pick one up at Redbox for a buck!
Btw, there is no talk of Media Center, it hooks up very well with the xbox. Microsoft should turn this into a true media mash-up, then the problem is solved, HD, 5.1 sound, easy hook up.

This comment cracks me up, how can people become so emotional about an OS? I go to Fry's and look at Mac's and I still don't get it. It looks and feels a lot like Vista. To a Windows user there definitely seems to be a learning curve. Personally I could never overcome the hardware/software incompatibilities (though I know that non-business users probably can). Why in the world would I spend so much for what is basically an appliance (OSX or MS)? In reply to: "Will Windows 7 stymie Mac OS X's growth?"
