  • The main problem is segmentation of the markets. You pay for WSJ online content and they get the money. Apple doesn't get any money unless you pay for the iphone version, Amazon doesn't get any money unless you pay for the kindle version, etc. They all want their cut and don't care how many times the consumer has to pay as long as they get what they want. • Except there is a big difference between physical goods that are scarce and electronic goods that can be reproduced many times over for almost zero cost. In reply to: "Dear newspapers: I will pay for your content, once"

  • "AT&T considers incentives to curb heavy data usage"

Incentives? Did this headline come directly from an ATT PR person? There isn't anything incentive about charging what they call "heavy" users. At least call it what it is...a disincentive at best.

An incentive might be if they offered a capped amount of data at a lower price but there is no way they would do that and lose out on the ability to gouge light users. In reply to: "AT&T considers incentives to curb heavy data usage"

  • First time I've listed to this podcast. Are the volumes always all over the place like that? Two of them seemed really loud compared to the other two. In reply to: "Digital City Podcast 58: Apple vs. Psystar; our fave laptop backpack; and New Super Mario Bros. Wii"

  • I agree, ebay may be fine when it comes to privacy issues, but I doubt they would make the list at all if it were based on trusting ebay as a whole. In reply to: "Study: eBay, Yahoo among most trusted companies"

  • Exactly, another way to look at it is that Google is paying the copyright holders to promote the books and make it easier for consumers to find something they might want to buy.

Yes, Google is going to make money off of advertising because of it. Authors and publishers are just too short sighted and think no one else should be able to make any money from something that has to do with their work even if it means they will also be making more money as well. • I wouldn't really call it "a favorable new royalty payment deal with the music industry" considering they will still have to pay significantly more than terrestrial radio stations for doing the same basic thing. The new "lower" payments are just lower than the insanely high ones the industry originally tried to put in place. In reply to: "Pandora raises new funds for Net radio business"

  • Are you counting a phone as an mp3 player? I haven't owned a stand alone mp3 player since the price of micro sd cards became so cheap. In reply to: "Poll: Why don't you have an iPod or MP3 player?"
