Actually, to get the second receiver, it's $150, about $550, you get almost as much as the Sonos package. The main advantages of the Sonos are that one of the Sonos' stations has an amplifier, and that it's got built in wireless networking. With the Squeezebox, you need a wireless network (which most of us have today anyhow), and an amp (heck, get some powered speakers. You need speakers anyhow). Interviewed there twice, what a mess
I interviewed at Microsoft twice, once while an undergrad, and once while a grad student. Admittedly this was over a decade ago, but from what I've heard, things haven't changed much. Never, and I mean never, have I met so many people who are so arrogant with absolutely no reason to be.
First, they love the puzzle question. That's nice, but I really don't care how to paddle to the edge of the lake before the lion eats me. I'm not particularly good at puzzles, and frankly, nobody is hiring me to solve puzzles. You're hiring me because I can solve programming problems, and when I don't know the answer, I can find it or figure it out, not because I can solve a puzzle in the next half hour.
Second, wow, you get some zit faced overweight dork who wrote 30 lines of code in DOS (yes, it was a LONG time ago that I interviewed there) and he thinks he knows the "right" answer. I remember one interview where the guy asked me a question, I disagreed with him, and we basically stared at each for the next 20 minutes without much to say. Great interviewing style that guy had, "agree with me, or you don't get a job".
Both times I walked away thinking "this isn't the kind of place I want to work". I wasn't respected for my skills, frequently wasn't given a chance to demonstrate my skills, wasn't respected for my knowledge or experience (depth or breadth), and felt more like cattle than a person. Glad I found other jobs where I've been MUCH happier (and I hated some of them).
Oh, BTW, the manhole cover is round because the manhole is round. It's a standard.... :-)

Why???
Would somebody, please, explain to me, as a consumer, what the value add of HP is to the iPod? It's labeled as the "Apple iPod from HP", not even an HP iPod. It has no additional features, and it doesn't cost any less. iTunes is still exactly the same, and still connects to the Apple music store, not the HP music store. HP hasn't done anything to this except stick an HP sticker on the box. Was this what Carly meant by "Invent"?
Why would I buy one from HP when I could get the exact same thing from Apple at the exact same cost? And I could get it months earlier from Apple. Is there something I'm missing here?

Barrett is an idiot
As a former Intel employee, I can tell you, Craig Barrett is the worst thing that ever happened to the company. His mismanagement is truly incredible. First, he blew billions of dollars on projects and acquisitions during the boom, projects which even the most optimistic analysis should have revealed would never be profitable. Then, as the boom collapsed, he cancelled everything, even the projects which were potentially profitable. He cancelled profitable projects because they weren't profitable enough. He demoralized the employees. He instigated force reduction programs which let the most talented people go, while keeping the political players who were the least productive. Finally, instead of keeping the talented, experienced teams, he's offshored work to foreign countries where he can fail for less.
This latest move reeks of "it's your fault we're not profitable enough". Continually passing the blame.
It's time for Barrett to go. The stockholders and board of directors should have his head on a platter.
