I was sold when I added Windows 7 Pro 64 to my dinky Presario CQ61, and it made it run run smoother than I expected. I'm running ZBrush, Maya, and Adobe CS4 Suite with ease. I had the misfortune of buying a laptop with Vista Home Basic on it. I guess anything looks awesome after that. In reply to: "Windows 7 leaving Redmond's help desk less busy"

The last 3 Blue-ray laptops that I've purchased charged me $150 for the upgrade. It's not very expensive at all. In reply to: "Skip the PS3 Slim and get one of these Blu-ray laptops"

For the most part almost all laptops with the HDMI output do transmit HD audio through the same HDMI port. I've had HDMI/Blu-ray laptops since March of last year, and all of them have worked that way. I'm sure your can find a few that don't do this, but so far I haven't spotted one without audio support through HDMI. In reply to: "Skip the PS3 Slim and get one of these Blu-ray laptops"

I think, and I may be wrong, that production houses will emerge that only provides other development houses with content that they otherwise wouldn't be able to afford. A production house that only make high res content for other houses could clean up I think. In reply to: "Are you ready for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720?"

While the sound volume can be low sometimes, I found it to be better than most laptops I've owned. The only sound issue I've had is what's called resonate distortions. That's when the dang case starts to vibrate when the sound is high. Have you encountered that problem? In reply to: "did anyone bother to test the audio?"

The HDMI works out well for me. The combined audio/video connection is great for presentations. Windows usually detects the native resolution of the HDTV, and I'm ready to rock and roll where ever I go. There is not a good reason to not give Apple users the choice. I personally hook my HDX18 to big screen TVs everyday. I'm an English Instructor in S. Korea, and I find that having the HDMI and even the VGA connectors to be much more useful than the mini DisplayPort. It's so much easier to present in a classroom with a big screen vs a blackboard. That's Apple's greatest nightmare. An Apple user fixing "anything" by themselves. Please let us take care of you! Change a battery? Nonsense! Give it to a genius so we can unsolder it for you. In reply to: "Fixing a cracked iPod Touch screen"

This might have been the first iPhone I would have considered getting now that they have the data tethering option. Except that they're tied to AT&T which seems to be trying to fail on an epic level in terms of price, speed, and call quality. In reply to: "Some early iPhone 3G S adopters subject to $200 surcharge"
