My comments

  • I purchased a new 24-inch iMac back in March of 2009. Shortly thereafter I imported a number of CDs into iTunes without issue. More recently, and post Snow Leopard installation, I ran into this very problem. About 10% of CDs inserted would dismount.

I contacted Tech Support and they had me download, install, run and send back to them information using Capture Data. I haven't yet heard back though.

I had noticed a number of forum comments about this problem from 2008 and further back. The folks in Tech Support mentioned they thought they had solved this problem. Apparently not. In reply to: "New Audio CDs unmounting after track name lookup"

  • Seems a bit early to me for the phone to be offered to the public, even by invitation only. If Google employs have had it for just a few weeks it would seem, at least to me, that Google is still in the testing/trail period. In reply to: "Nexus One to go on sale January 5 by invite only?"

  • I can't help but wonder if this is related, in any way, the Aries Project as seen in Woody Allen's "Sleeper"? In reply to: "Palm releases Project Ares as public beta"

  • No. I wouldn't pay $499 for the luxury of browsing the web with what appears to be a very elegant device. But I think our author may have, in part, missed the point of a foray into this realm....the future.

Someone had to get the ball rolling and these folks seem to be working hard to deliver a device for the future. Today $499. Next year, assuming they survive, maybe $399. And the year after $299 and twice as fast, 1080p, etc.

Someone has to break ground somewhere. I will grant you that it may be hard to succeed at $499, but if the device is turns out to be really smart and works very well there may be enough interest to keep the enterprise alive long enough for economies of scale to kick in and etc., etc. In reply to: "Hands-on with the JooJoo"

  • Let's face it...the problem with surround-sound isn't price or initiative, but clutter and wires.

Extra speaker stands in the same corners where we already place our chairs or couches just means we have to move things about. And what to do with the speaker wires? There is no simple and/or elegant solution to running speaker wires around a room that is reasonable for most families. In reply to: "Stereo vs. surround: And the winner is..."
