Actually, you saw the 550, not the 551. Similar design, but the 551 isn't in stores yet. In reply to: "$2,199, 55-inch Vizio goes for LED price jugular"

After 20 years in the industry (none of them working for Toshiba), I would STRONGLY suggest that the problem is your local repair guy. If possible, take or ship the unit to a Toshiba facility directly; service should be prompt and free. If it isn?t, it?s because you have waited too long "working" with a repair guy who either doesn?t know his stuff or is ripping you off.
The switch to digital TV has been public since 2003, and websites have been required BY LAW to carry warnings about this since 2005. If you did not notice this, then you should be buying in a store; Internet buying is not for the inexperienced or uninformed.
This is not a place to vent on Toshiba. We're here to figure out if this PRODUCT might be appropriate, not to hear your rant about an unrelated purchase. As I said, given my 20 years experience, Toshiba has a consistent tradition of better service than most. I wonder how many of your issues were related to your approach and attitude, as typified by this "review".

Also, quickly -- again, with my experience, I would STRONGLY suggest that the problem lies with your local repair guy. If Toshiba says it is covered, and your repairman contradicts them, it is the repairman who is bilking you. If possible, take or ship the unit to a Toshiba facility directly; you will generally find that service will be prompt and free. If it is not, it is because you have waited too long "working" with a repair guy who either doesn't know what they are talking about or are relying on your inexperience to in his efforts to bilk you.
Also, the switch to digital TV has been public since 2003, and websites like Amazon have been required BY LAW to carry warnings about this since 2005. If you did not notice this, then you should be paying more in a store so that a salesperson can take you step-by-step; Internet buying is not for the inexperienced or uninformed.

This is not a place to vent on Toshiba. We're here to figure out if this MODEL of TV is good for us, not to hear your little rant about an unrelated product. As someone who has worked as a professional in the electronics industry for over 20 years, Toshiba has a long and consistent tradition of better service than most. I wonder how many of your issues were related to your approach and attitude, as exemplified by this "review".
Spare us your tantrums.
