You don't need to leave your amp on. You can buy a $5 IR blaster and plug it into the mini-jack on the back of the duet. Mine turns on my amp when I turn on the duet receiver. In reply to: "Logitech's Squeezebox Duet: Sonos for the masses?"

Sounds like a good setup on the SONOS. I have the duet and I really like it. I also have a ReadyNAS, which runs an embedded slimserver, so no PC has to be on for the duet in my setup. One other comment, the slimserver does not have to be on to use squeezenetwork, so all streaming services can be accesed even when the server is off. Not an issue in my setup however.
One under-appreciated aspect of the Squeeze/Slim software that I admire is the way that squeezenetwork integrates streaming radio into one coherent interface. This was not the case a year or so ago, so many have never seen it. I now have a "favorites" folder that presents playlists, albums (from my collection), internet radio stations, Sirius satellite stations, and Pandora streams as if they were just presets on a radio.

The remote talks to the SlimServer via Wi-FI (it is a Wi-Fi) remote, and the slim server talks to the receivers via IP. There is no direct communication between the remote and the receivers. In reply to: "Logitech's Squeezebox Duet: Sonos for the masses?"
