People always complain about the cost of peripherals, but really how many of them did you actually pay for by themselves?
Yes, we all had to buy 3 additional Wii Remotes and Nunchuks (assuming you want four total).
But let's look at the other peripherals:
Wii Wheel - Free with Mario Kart, ExciteBots
Zapper - Free with Link's Crossbow Training
Motion+ - Free with any number of games (Wii Sports Resort, Tiger Woods, Grand Slam Tennis, Red Steel 2). It doesn't particularly make sense to purchase these separately as most of the games you will use them with will include one free.
In the end you get all those peripherals while still only having paid for the original remotes and nunchuks.
The exception would be the Balance Board, but that is a non-essential accessory used only by a handful of games.

"You seem to be forgeting that Google is profiting from people coming to Google to locate that information and giving nothing to most of those sites!"
Except that Google makes their money from ads and there are no ads on Google News, only links driving traffic to news sites.

You can create remarkably accurate looking Mii's, so it is no surprise that police have started using it.
A drawing from a sketch artist is likely to be a little more accurate, but that of course requires a skilled sketch artist whereas this can be done by pretty much anyone.
Plus, a Mii on a poster would be more likely to catch my eye versus a police sketch that I would most likely ignore.

I love the new Google Mars feature. It is so awesome being able to explore another planet with such great imagery.
The Google Sky feature, while not new to version 5.0, is also incredible.
With all the great Mars and universe imagery, it surprises me that there is no Google Moon yet (although I'm sure it won't be too much longer until we have that as well).

The sales theory doesn't really hold up since (as of 9/30/08), Wii Fit (8.76 million), Super Smash Bros. Brawl (7.47 million) and Mario Kart Wii (9.53 million) were all released in 2008 and have sold more copies. Not only that, but they all sold on only one system (Wii) instead of two like GTAIV.
Personally I think it won in part because of all the hype. Sure it may be a great game, but there were many games that were much more creative and original released in 2008.
My pick would be "World of Goo" for Wii.
