My 2007 dual core laptop's been pretty good for me for the past 3 years. One weakness is in the GPU, which granted on this $700 laptop I didn't expect much, but at least I can watch 1080p video.
Why do we need so much processing power for the same price? It's overkill.

Even with higher resolution, as you zoom it, given the fonts are rendered correctly and the image zoom is antialiased etc., you have a much more clarity than if it was simply "lower resolution." I definitely like having the option of having higher resolution, especially when it could easily be a mobile media device. :D
However, I'd gladly give up 1080p until the smooth scrolling is actually smooth and any video played (even YouTube HD) is up to a proper 24 fps or whatever it's supposed to be. I don't want to sacrifice performance for clarity when it comes to screen rendering.
