My comments

  • Very few (probably about 6-8 or so since the dawn of blu-ray) blu-rays wont play in certain players until a firmware update is released. What happens is that a lot of people test the movie the instant it comes out, and then spam the internet stating that it doesn't work. A week or 2 later when the firmware is released to fix it, nobody says anything. In reply to: "Return of the $78 Blu-ray player"

  • I agree with you, updating's typically not that difficult, but you have to admit, it does kind of suck having to burn a disc and start an upgrade when you have friends over waiting to watch a movie. I'd love to say I'd remember to test every new disc I rent or buy, but that's not going to happen. In reply to: "Return of the $78 Blu-ray player"

  • I own 2 of those movies and a profile 1.1 player, and they work just fine. When I looked at the firmware website for my player, it seems like they stay quite on top of it. You just have to make sure your player's manufacturer keeps on top of it. By the way, I've watched about 20-30 blu-rays from Netflix since buying my player, and have never had one not work, and never have had to update my firmware. I'm fairly sure the manufacturer of Magnavox is the same as that of Sylvania (the brand player I own), so it shouldn't have too much trouble. Maybe 1 out of every 50-100 movies won't play for a few weeks after it's released, but that's not really the player manufacturer's fault; they have no way of knowing in advance. • you said "the original", so you may already know this, but they DID re-do all the graphics to make it look more modern for this version. I know it's the same game, but if given the choice, I'd rather play an HD re-drawn version than playing the original at this point. In reply to: "Sega classic Earthworm Jim wriggles onto iPhones"

  • You're justifying your illegal activity by mentioning the price of the hard drive you purchased solely for this reason? Also, I've never paid $30 for a bluray disc. The most I've paid is $25 for a new movie, but typically I get them even cheaper. I figure only maybe 3-4 movies a year are actually worth owning and watching again, so I don't break the bank buying movies. I'd also have no reason to rip the 50 or so other movies I rent in a year, because I'd never watch them again. In reply to: "Hands on with the Summer 2009 Xbox 360 dashboard update"

Um... people get pretty crazy at Street Fighter tournaments, so technically, you're right. In reply to: "The top 10 songs the Web brought back"

  • Definitely. And in 10 years, Blu-ray will be an obsolete/dying format either way (like DVD is now), so it would be a great "next format". In reply to: "Sony announces two 400-disc Blu-ray megachangers"

  • Yeah, but this giant bulky box with 400 cds in it is legal (sadly). In reply to: "Sony announces two 400-disc Blu-ray megachangers"

  • I second this. I started up an HD movie on Netflix, and Netflix "readjusted the quality to prevent further interruptions" about 3 or 4 times after that, dropping it definitely below 480 (probably ended up around 360 or so). Also, even though my bandwidth is capped at 250GB per month with Comcast, I've heard that nearly every other ISP caps much much lower. In reply to: "Get a Magnavox Blu-ray player for $98"

  • Not sure if its a must-own Blu-Ray, but a must own movie, definitely. Now where did I put my towel... In reply to: "Top 40 must-have Blu-ray Discs"
