My comments

  • I'm shocked that of the 55 preceding comments, only a few said they'd stop shopping at these sites.

REDCATS is on the "elite" list; they have clothing catalogs under a variety of names, i.e., Metrostyle, Chadwicks, and many other very familiar names. I have been a very good customer - until now. No more. I have been invited to partake in the scam, but took the time to read the offer, including the fine print, and didn't do it. But now that I have a better understanding of this predatory and smarmy bit of trickery, I will not buy from them anymore, and I will be sure to let them know why.

Unfortunately, I don't have the same luxury of choice with Continental, but I will certainly add my "noise" to their "We Care" agenda. Obviously, they don't care, as long as the revenue is flowing in. Maybe their latest checked baggage fee increase (of today?) is related to an intention to stop their association with the scam artists?

There definitely oughta be a law. In reply to: "Feds: Top e-tailers profit from billion-dollar Web scam"

  • It seems as if I'm the only computer user in the whole world who has had multiple problems with Iobit's Advanced System Care, both on my computer running XP and the one running Vista. It slows down my systems to a crawl. Worst of all, I can't remove the program on either computer, even with RevoUninstall. I just don't understand it. On the other hand, I've been using CCleaner for years, and it works well. Any thoughts? In reply to: "Must-have Windows tools"

  • I haven't won anything except for a Black & Decker Can Opener 20 years ago. This would be a lot cooler, so I'd really love to win. In reply to: "Crave giveaway of the week: Philips NP2900 Streamium Network Music Player"

  • "Firefox 3.5 nevertheless represents the best Firefox we've yet seen from Mozilla."

Glad you think so. My PC doesn't. I can't open it, can't remove it, can't open it in Safe Mode, can't use System Restore to get rid of the update. In short, I'm scr***d. And I don't want to risk losing everything by deleting the file completely. In reply to: "Firefox 3.5: Excellent for fans, but competition getting tougher"

  • The only thing I've ever won is a Black and Decker Toaster Oven (cheapo model). I'd love to have this little baby. In reply to: "Crave giveaway of the week: SanDisk Sansa Clip"

  • Whenever I travel out of the country, I take my cell phone along and keep it on - but for emergencies only. When I arrive in the foreign country I send a text message to my daughter for 50 cents to tell her that I've arrived safely. Then I call her periodically by using a phone in the numerous phone centers that seem to be everywhere, at rates that are almost free, compared with the rip-off rates charged by any of the American countries.

During a recent trip to South America a family member did call for an emergency. I didn't answer, but after she called four times in five minutes, I went across the street from our hotel and called her from the phone center; I made several other calls as well, was on for well over an hour, and paid less than $10. When I returned home and got my AT&T bill, my telephone charges were zero. As an aside, however, I was shocked to find hundreds of dollars in roaming charges for the time period that my phone was on! (it was a trip of almost three weeks). My BlackBerry data plan had stopped functioning, in fact, my phone was dead from a data standpoint, and I couldn't even access any emails, which I hadn't even tried to do. But it seems that AT&T had agreements with the local phone companies. Luckily, AT&T removed all the charges.

The 5.99 that AT&T charges for its international plan doesn't entitle you to huge discounts. In Chile and Argentina, where you'll pay nearly $3.00 a minute to call the U.S. from your cell phone, the savings amount only to about .25-.50 per minute. If you are a business traveler and must use your cell phone, I guess you have to pay the piper. But if you're a casual traveler, there is not a compelling reason, IMHO, to pay the exorbitant phone fees when phone availability is, by and large, readily available, comfortable, and cheap. And text messages beat them all! In reply to: "Going abroad? Don't be afraid to pack the cell phone"

  • I love FF, but after the update a week ago I experienced multiple crashes, which hadn't happened through many previous updates and versions. While updating FF is annoying and time-consuming, the required reboot is always beneficial, since it speeds up my computer. I'm happy they addressed this - the crashes were a pain, but also, I was not aware that I should have not been using Firefox during that time! In reply to: "One week later, Firefox updates again"

  • I wonder what I'm doing wrong. I downloaded Slacker onto my BB Pearl last night, tried to get it going this morning. All I keep getting is warnings saying that the application is "trying to break into a firewall", which is in "violation of IT terms." Until I can figure out what's wrong, all I can do is uninstall it and give it a big, fat ZERO. In reply to: "Slacker Radio brings BlackBerry a neat caching trick"
