  • No brainer question, where has Microsoft been in this space, getting creamed by iPhone, and if not careful Android or other offerings?

These idiots should be putting every resource available on ditching the non-user friendly Win Mobile and coming up with a whole new product.

Hopefully Balmer is not just offering lip service here.

<Another questioner asked why Microsoft can't better compete against Apple's iPhone and other smartphones. "Certainly our objective is to have the leading position," Ballmer said. "I think we have a lot of opportunity to improve...Undoubtedly we've got our work cut out for us."
He did say that Microsoft has put a lot of smart people on the task.
"We've got our heads down to do our best," Ballmer said.> In reply to: "Ballmer: Windows 7 selling like hotcakes"

  • This has been played off that 'poor' Mr. Dodge out of the blue got dumped by Microsoft, and no one can understand why. Well, as they say there are two sides to every story, and my bet is Mr. Dodge was on the surface evangelizing for softee, but internally not into it. Microsoft recognized such, and like any self respecting company where a fit does not exist showed him the door.

But throwing out a conspiracy theory, it IS interesting how fast this guy got picked up by Google after allegedly being bounced by Softee. Did he have this in the works for a while, and maybe it got picked up on at Microsoft, and that's why they decided to act first. In reply to: "Google scoops up ex-Microsoftie Don Dodge"

  • Unreal Microsoft arguably the largest 'OS company' has allowed their lunch to be eaten by iphone, palm, RIMM, Symbian, and increasingly Android.

They should be working around the clock to come up with something credible, which may mean totally ditching the whole Win Mobile hairball. In reply to: "Windows Mobile loses nearly a third of market share"

  • The writer making a blanket pronouncement on 3G over Wi-Fi based on a sour experience seems rather simpleton. A key issue with Wi-Fi is indeed ubiquity (lack of roaming, one must ostensibly log into disparate Wi-Fi enabled networks), and as the writer discovered QOS(Quality Of Service). However, what if these issues can be solved, and no reason they cannot? Blessing 3G or forthcoming LTe by the very few carriers, while dissing Wi-Fi, with scant rationale to do so does not seem right. In reply to: "Why I choose 3G over Wi-Fi"

  • Very bad idea the FTC disclosure rule. For one thing, no one will ever know what amounts to advertising or conflict of interest, or what does not. Further, might it also be used to go after poitical enemies?

This rule needs to go the way of the DoDo Bird--Extinct! In reply to: "IAB to FTC: Dump the new blogger rules"

  • Great article in terms of getting into details of the technology being unveiled at Solar Decathlon 2009.

Will be interesting to see how entries that have chosen to hold costs down fare against more pricey offerings from institutions that seem to regularly win or place in the top 5.

Look forward to upcoming photo gallery and home details. In reply to: "Solar village begins to bloom on National Mall"

  • >I still haven't seen Bing produce results on par with Google for much.
Not my experience since using for a month now.

    >Bing needs to either start over

Really, what do you technically base this on?

    >or get a major upgrade in general!

    Perhaps tweak and improve.

Do you think the no. 1 search might be in need of a major upgrade too? They seem to trail Bing in UI, Twitter RT, Video. In reply to: "Microsoft: Bing needs to improve when news breaks"

  • Have been on Bing since beginning of June and works great. I will stick with Bing as primary 'decision engine' for now. In reply to: "Does Microsoft's Bing have Google running scared?"

  • This reviewer must not know what they are doing I think.

Used Bing 5 days as primary search and very good. In reply to: "Bing off to solid start, but not that good"
