  • I'd recommend buying an APC UPS for the express purpose of your home-audio equipment. Depending on the size of your battery-backup simply shut the equipment down and preserve the life of the battery and preserve your settings. Personally, I use APC UPSs on all my computers and sensitive electronic equipment and DSL modem. In reply to: "Dish Network DTVPal DVR to ship in December"

  • My wife's mother recently got new service with Dish Network and they sent her the 625 Dual Tuner which isn't a bad DVR. Reading the bill is like an AT&T bill. There's the monthly service and then there's the DVR free $5.98, we don't have a land line $5.00 and the Home Protection Plan $5.99. That's $16.97 and times 12 is $203.64 a year extra. I've been looking for a straight up HD DVR that does exactly what this DVR does, record over-the-air. No dink-you-to-death fees. About time! • My family and I have been with T-Mobile 11 years now and the Shadow II has been mentioned up and down the web for almost a year and as of January 26, 2009 there is not one mention on their website of what we believe is the Shadow 2009's release on Wednesday 1/28, but we all remember the G1 and currently the upcoming Curve 8900 "Coming Soon." We own the Motorola z3 RIZR, Blackberry Curve, and T-Mobile Shadow which I own and have modified enough to be the upcoming Shadow 2009's equal which is my pet peeve with T-Mobile. I don't understand their logic. And worse, their 3G network is proprietary which means other unlocked 3G phones and smartphones won't work on their network. Every new piece of hardware is always the same - 3G and no Wi-Fi, or WiFi and no 3G. There are those of us that enjoy Windows Mobile. I would like to see for instance the Motorola Q11 as a replacement to the aging dash; it darn near looks like the new paint job the Dash has today; why not? Don't get me wrong, I see from some leaked HTC documents that HTC has updates for all of TM's aging smart phones, but with the exception of the G2, they're at least a year away; God knows we waited long enough for what we thought was to be the Shadow II, but please any future Shadows one wish, a full QWERTY and a crystal case to fit over Shadows with extended batteries and to not smear the display; thanks! • My 1st piece of advice to Sirius XM's Music Channels - No commercials, no promos, no anything. Straight music, period. Artist and song information is provided via the text on Sirius' and XM's respective radios. Next, three words, "A La Carte". Sirus SM is to pay Sterns $100 million a year, have listeners pay to hear this guy. Same for the NFL, MLB, PGA, NHL, NASCAR, Oprah, Playboy, etc. I don't get $12.95 a month for everything and $9.99 for all music and $9.99 for all news, talk & sports. I agree with Reisinger, lower the price, but create different tiers and packages. At most, I listen to 12 channels and that's about it. Do we really need 170 channels? I don't need Boston traffic in Auburn, AL thought I might need Atlanta, GA. Why not offer this as a package for $0.50 each city? Jesus Christ, how many rock stations do we need? How many country stations do we need? Give me 12 channels, charge me $5.00 and you will have a customer for life; give me 200 channels and charge me up to $16.99; where does it stop? It wasn't that long ago it was $9.99. In reply to: "Is Sirius XM doing enough to save its business?"
