  • To me this is one of the best examples of why they current copyright system is messed up. The man has been dead for 59 years but his works (over 65+ years old) are still copyrighted and not part of the public domain.

Can someone tell me again why copyright + 98 years is good for the people (especially since when the time is almost up, they'll just increase the length of copyright) ? In reply to: "Amazon says it won't repeat Kindle book recall"

  • When they wrote the "Home Recording Act" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_Home_Recording_Act ) it was supposed to be to allow the home user to copy things. The fact you can make a bit for bit copy isn't relevent. In reply to: "Some charges dropped against The Pirate Bay"

  • The only issue I see with this is that when your player is attached to the internet, it can update it self to remove DVD keys that "they" deemed to be compromised. Depending on how things work, this could prevent you from playing your legally purchased DVDs on your legally purchased player. • Bob,

Question: For someone like myself, who will NEVER do the e-file (unless its required), how is this of a benefit for me ?
    Answer: It ISN'T.

Question:How is it a benefit that I can no longer do taxes for my elderly in-laws ?
    Answer: It ISN'T.

None of these changes are for my benefit, they are for the sole benefit of Intuit. In reply to: "Amazon reviewers slam TurboTax fee changes"

  • I have a problem with their pricing too. Why is it that the cost per month for a cell phone is still huge (I only pay 30, but it is JUST for a phone plan - and I don't live on my cellphone either, its for emergencies, not general use) .

Shouldn't their cell tower infrastructure be paid for now and just in a maintenance mode (How many new towers are they actually building now) ? In reply to: "Telcos: Don't mess up the Internet with regulation"

  • The reason is that you can STILL purchase a fully functional NON-iPOD mp3 player. You aren't being forced to use iTunes with the NON-iPOD (try buying a laptop to run Linux on and not pay the windows tax).

You have other alternatives, the fact people aren't using them doesn't make them not-exist. In reply to: "Judge presses for more from Microsoft"

  • Why not spend $ 1 Billion to find the cause of why people LIKE child porn in the 1st place and try to fix the cause instead of the symptom ?

Or does that make too much sense in the long run ? In reply to: "Senators OK $1 billion for online child porn fight"

  • That would require something they lack...
... the ability to admit they made a mistake.

They should have made Vista feature upgrades to Windows XP (that way you could chose or NOT chose to install them). In reply to: "Vista SP1 auto updates also halted"

  • Sharepoint is not windows only ?
    >Sharepoint is not windows only, but...
    >the only two browsers been certified for
    >SharePoint are Internet Explorer & FireFox.

Then why can't I access it at ALL with my Linux machine ? Oh yeah, its because of Active Directory.

Why can't they make these damned things use a username/password by default (or at least ASK for one when it needs it and can't just "get it") ? In reply to: "Psystar violated terms of merchant services agreement"

  • Don't just blame them
Blame the people who insist that it ALL must be protected. These people who've implemented Digital Restriction Mismanagement have basically said "You're a criminal so we must prevent you from exercising your fair rights". Just wait until the next release of DVR's refuse to record 1st run shows because the owners tell it not to.

I'm all for the content creators making a profit, but not at the expense of my fair use rights.
