Definitely agree that pricing isn't quite where it needs to be. I think that carriers are being cautious, rather than come out with super low pricing, unlimited plans, etc. It's easier for them to lower the price over time as they learn about people's usage patterns, than to increase it later or discontinue service if it's not profitable. Also missing is a classic pay-as-you-go plan option. Obviously they want to lock you in for a period of time, but a bundle of MB that last even 90 days would be nice.

Ironically, I just added new pages this past week regarding the Sprint strategy around prepaid...time to add another page to reflect Virgin! There as a question regarding prepaid data plans. If you mean mobile broadband, yes, there are (my site has a summary of all of them). Virgin just launched theirs in June. I believe prepaid broadband is a massive growth market. It will be interesting to see how Boost and Virgin can co-exist. Different demographics...sure...Sufficiently different to be synergistic....questionable.

It really is a great offer, and I hope that it exits its trial and gets wider distribution. Their approach to offer a completely different brand on a different site is also very interesting. If they were to come out with high end phones and smartphones, we'd really see a bang!
It really compares well to other plans: www.prepaid-wireless-guide.com/compare-unlimited-plans.html

Small print notwithstanding, it's a good deal; better than anything out there now. And yes, it's an add-on; perhaps the title should explain that, however, it's not uncommon to communicate it in this way. You need to have service first, then you can add on these types of things. I don't think that's misleading, though could be clarified I supposed.

Great interview! I couldn't agree more regarding the trends we're seeing in North America versus those that transpired years ago in Europe. It continues to surprise me when people or carriers speak negatively about the prepaid model. I think such comments are naive, b/c the reality is that we're not paving the way here or doing a lot that's innovative. It's been tried, tested, and proven for years in other countries.
With respect to broadband, I agree that competition is good and will only draw attention to the segment. There's opportunity for a myriad of players. I see Cricket selling well via the traffic to my site, along with other players. Virgin will have its place to.

The pricing actually isn't too bad, especially considering the competition, as well as the ability to avoid a contract. You can compare plans here: http://www.prepaid-wireless-guide.com/prepaid-wireless-broadband-plans.html In reply to: "Virgin Mobile to offer pay-as-you-go broadband"

I like the way the article flows. I do believe, however, that a lot of the benefits transcend many carriers, and the tag lines regarding what a particular carrier is good for is only somewhat helpful. The options are so vast, and the competition so great, that I'd hate to see people see those statements and have tunnel vision by either jumping into a particular carrier or completely excluding it based on the comments. I'm hoping that the way I have the plans laid out on the my site allow people to compare on a detailed level and come to their own conclusion regarding which carrier and plan is best for them.
