  • Linux is already at 1% market-share the last time I checked the numbers and I think that number is probably a little too conservative of what the reality is. 10 of millions of Linux users can't be wrong! In reply to: "Canonical shines its Ubuntu light on consumers"

  • Yeah, true!

Whatever happen to Microsoft's Origami that was going to be a BIG deal?

The thing Apple does well is, they will not build hype on an unreleased product (they leave that to the Apple rumor-mills out there). They keep the design simple-n-sleek instead of over killing it with every useless, not sure what it does button (or other) imaginable, making the user experience horrible.

The other guys (Microsoft/HP/Dell) do not make anything exciting, especially when it has Windows (well suited only for the corporate enterprise market) operating system under-the-hood, which is not consumer friendly, PERIOD!

The other problem, how does a consumer really differentiate between the PC cloners (HP, Dell, Gateway, etc...) out there? They all deliver the same thing with a different brand/logo on the box. Other than that, it's the same old unexciting product (hardware/software).

How I wish for the computer industry excitement of the 1980s where you had REAL choice amongst IBM, Apple, Commodore, Atari, etc... and not this Dell, HP, Gateway, etc... where the only REAL choice is the choice of the brand/logo pinned to the box of the same product (hardware/software); which to me is BORING!

Commodore is dead, long live Commodore! In reply to: "Microsoft, Intel to cede tablet market to Apple?"

  • Uh, Google Chrome uses the WebKit rendering engine in Chrome. The only difference is the JavaScript engine being used between Safari and Chrome. In reply to: "Opera 10.5 pre-alpha goes Chrome hunting"

  • Good, it's about time that Psystar's black market Mac making business put to death. I mean, why don't they just sell PCs with Windows like all the other PC cloners out there?! In reply to: "Psystar closes up shop...or does it?"

  • Silverlight is horrible. I used it recently to stream some football games and it reminded me of Windows Media Player of old where the only thing it was good at was spin, spin, spin (while buffering)! In reply to: "Microsoft Bing Maps Beta adds much richer images"

  • The Droid has too many movable parts and Verizon's mostly reliable network is SLOW. So, IMHO, it's a stale mate. Also the Droids lack of good multi touch features (gestures, etc...) means that it doesn't hold a candle to the iPhone in its current form.

On a different note: it's good to see the Google Android OS getting some good marketing/press. In reply to: "New Apple ads to Verizon: Can Droid do this?"

  • That said, Ballmer noted that "96 times out of 100, worldwide, people choose a PC with Windows."

Because most people don't know any better and only buy Windows out of ignorance, not by choice! In reply to: "Ballmer: Windows 7 selling like hotcakes"
