  • Gee, how could Microsoft have known there'd be such a large traffic hit to their site after they make an announcement for us all to be sure to log onto their site at the same time to make sure we get our beta copy? They seem to be far more adept these days at making excuse after excuse when things go wrong instead of making sure things go right. There are many solutions to make sure what happened to their download site today didn't happen, but that would have required FORWARD thinking and lately that's not something they've been very good at. • So Microsoft is excited that I'm excited to get the Windows 7 beta. What I think they're missing here is that the only reason I am excited to get it is because I HATE Vista and want it GONE forever from my PC! I use a Windows supplied laptop from my company but for home and family, we made the switch to 3 Macs completely based on our disappointment with Vista. I expect and have generally received quality from both Microsoft and Apple but once Vista invaded my life, I expect more from Microsoft than a flimsy excuse that they were not expecting the amount of traffic to their website. That shows total ignorance of the tech market, and as the market leader they are, that's not too bright a move. In reply to: "Microsoft holding off on Windows 7 public beta"

  • If Palm is indeed readying a new Palm OS release for 2009, it only showcases the company's weakness in glaring detail. It's been over 5 years since the Palm OS has been overhauled and in today's technology market, that's an admission that you simply can't keep up with innovation. They have prettied up the external face but truly, what is inside that sets it apart from any other Windows smartphone. I gave up my Treo 700p last month for my first iPhone 3g and the functionality and ease of use, including with Office documents and email, have made it one of the smartest tech purchases I've made. There is nothing about my Treo that I miss. In reply to: "Palm Treo Pro: Not digging it"

  • While I don't believe a class action lawsuit is the answer, I do wish Apple had been more responsive to customer concerns from the beginning since it was obviously a very widespread problem and not isolated to any specific geographic location. I live in a 3g rich environment and while sitting at a patio restaurant had my iPhone switch from 3g to Edge, back to 3g and then to No Service in a matter of minutes without changing location. Since this is a commonly reported problem, I do believe Apple and ATT should have responded much more openly then they have to date. In reply to: "Apple sued over iPhone 3G reception issues"

  • In the area of Los Angeles I live in, we are supposed to have full 3g coverage. However I too am running into ridiculously frequent occurrences of dropped calls, and losing 3g. Earlier today I was sitting at a patio restaurant, had 5 bars and 3g service working fine. Suddenly dropped to 2 bars and down to Edge. Then dropped to No Service. Took a full iPhone reboot to get 2 bars again and never did regain 3g at that location. I have always loved my Apple computers but this is my first iPhone and my first experience with ATT and I have to admit, it's tarnished my opinion of both. • The Centro has been a very good marketing tool for Palm to stay relevant in the smartphone segment, but there are some serious flaws people should be aware of before purchasing. I am coming to the end of my 2 year commitment after purchasing my Palm Treo 700p. While other manufacturers, Samsung and Apple most notably, are utilizing the best of new technology, Palm has not updated their software since 2002. It's a very clunky operating system and can be very annoying to use. While the physical smartphone itself is attractive and offers many features, it's not a smooth process to get these features to work. When my contract ends in 8 weeks, I will be switching carriers and smartphones for the new iPhone instead. In reply to: "Palm Centro heads to Verizon Wireless"

  • After having trouble with my pre-installed Vista laptop early in 2007, I made the decision after much research to make the big switch to Apple's OS X when the current version was released last October. At the same time, my sister purchased a new Windows Vista PC. She has had nothing but headaches ever since with software malfunctions and hardware incompatibility. On the other hand, I made the smartest tech decision I've ever made, I could not be happier with my Mac and have been successful in getting two of my coworkers to make the switch as well. Stability, security and ease of use. What a concept! Thank you Apple! And to Microsoft, I love Office 2008 for Mac but as far as your OS, you've lost me for good.
