  • Perhaps the main reason for recorded music to die is it sounds like so much crap. I hope we are not reaching the end of a creative arena that goes back 80+ years.
    1) The Old Masters. Artists & bands from the 20's & the invention of recorded music. The move must be on to preserve the past, moving old recordings to newer media.
    2) Legacy Acts. Radio stations like WSM that have a 80+ year collection of country music, all types, all eras, finding a new audience for old music. Legendary performers live on forever in their recordings.
    3) Established stars doing their own labels, have something to sell at shows. Get more of the proceeds. New acts find a home with the new labels.
    4) All the old big labels are needed for may be manufacturing & distribution to Best Buy, WalMart, Target?
    5) Cracker Barrel becoming a new seller for country music. Get a meal with your CD In reply to: "Will recorded music survive the 2010s?"

  • Not on the list, but here goes :
    1) Windows 7 killer apps.
    2) A new vendor for Flight Simulator & other ex-Microsoft PC games. Must take advantage of W7
    3) Broadband price wars
    4) Free wifi price wars anywhere that sells food. Starbucks, McDonald's, Borders, Walgreen's, etc In reply to: "Friday Poll: What do you most want to see in 2010?"

  • So what's the big deal here?
Does it play in the car radio, or over a satelite?
Will it do local news, sports, traffic, weather? (Cub games, university games, etc?)
Will it have a deep catalog of music? Tunes in all formats going back?
Will the sound be decent on my stereo? Will it even play?
Can I get it for FREE? no subscriptions, no fees, nada? In reply to: "Does the broadcast model have a place in online radio?"

  • One record shop to add to the list is the Ernest Tubb Record Shop in Nashville TN. You will not find a shop with a deeper catalog for all types of country music. Saturday nite at midnight tune into the 2nd longest live radio program, featuring old masters & new artists. Where do you think Amazon gets their records from? Also provides a venue for the artists to do a meet & greet.

As for all those downloads, unless you have some good speakers, you pay good money for bad sound. Am I the only one that is tired of the record company radio station mass market retailer pushing yet another format war to be replaced again in a few years? • Some discount DS games go for $10 or less. Watch for sales at ToysRUs, Target, WalMart, Best Buy, (no Circuit City or Comp USA). Highest price games are $39.

For the price, a lot depends on what kind of games you like. Nintendo has learned to sell to a wider market, with Brain Age & others that my 86yr old mother can play. Clubhouse Games has a nice collection of old board games + bowling & some others.

We may have to wait till the fall to see if the new Madden Football can take advantage of higher processor speeds? In reply to: "Portable gaming: iPhone, iPod Touch, DSi, or PSP?"

  • 100 million DS with a large library of games. DSi if you don't need the GBA slot. In reply to: "Portable gaming: iPhone, iPod Touch, DSi, or PSP?"

  • When it comes to computers, don't forget the Office stores, Office Depot, Office Max, Staples. Watch the ads carefully if they will price match or beat Best Buy. They also have their own Rewards discount program. You can also get deals on ink & other home office supplies. In reply to: "Report: Is Best Buy refusing to match prices?"

  • I hope the new screens are better than the old DS Fat ones. With the right phones, the DS can be a decent tune player. There may be some software changes to allow one to play your own tunes while playing Brain Age. I bet Nintendo will release some new game upgrades to the old titles. Downloading should allow one to obtain & play samples of new games. There may also be a rush to convert titles from GBA chips to DSI. either way, Nintendo will make a boatload of $$ with the new machine. Those that just spent $120 for a DS lite don't need to upgrade yet. In reply to: "Gaming preview: Who should buy the Nintendo DSi and who shouldn't"

  • At my Nashville store, the good stuff went out the first weekend. Slim pickings for laptops, computers, video/camcorders. Plenty of TV's, a ton of CD & DVD video. The only "deal" I could find was 2G Kodak SD chips. 10% off here merely pays the sales tax, no deal.

RIP, Circuit city. I hope some of the store managers can reopen a new electronic store store to give BB & the rest some competition. Between Staples, Office Depot, Office Max, there may be more stores closing. In reply to: "Spying on the Circuit City liquidation sale"
