  • Oh please, Jeff. Quit your ]31tc]-[ing. For all eternity people have been complaining about how the new media and entertainment is corrupting the youth. Movies... television... radio... the printing press. If you don't like the language used by today's youth during their entertainment, you have four choices: don't play on-line, don't use a head set, use a different channel, or mute the offenders. Quit trying to drum up trouble!

  • I really don't think the market is going to change that much. HP, Toshiba, and to some extent Dell are playing it smart for the next six months. They will drop the prices of their Core Duo laptops to get rid of their current stock. With Intel's announcement of the laptop i7 chip coming out with the need for a whole new motherboard, the more informed public may have waited until next year to make their purchases. Retail stores are already starting holiday sales pitches. If the big laptop manufacturers don't want to go the way of the auto industry, they need to move their stock. With companies like Asus and web stores like Newegg, price cuts make the only sense. In reply to: "Windows 7 to usher in crush of cheap laptops"

  • @Random_Walk: actually, I believe you are missing the big point. Let's take a look at your simple assertion that Apple sells most of its products at an Apple Store. Ok, I don't see anyone arguing with you about that point. Now, look at what the author of the article was saying. When given a choice of PC laptops, Apple laptops, or netbooks, the netbook is currently the clear winner... particularly at a BestBuy.

Apple Stores are niche boutique stores. There are less than 300 of them WORLDWIDE. There are around 1200 BestBuy (or their subsidiary chain stores) WORLDWIDE. I didn't look at the other retail stores, but if you include other places that sell computers to the masses, I bet there is a shload more than AppleStores (think about all the Walmarts and Sams' Clubs alone). If you look at those figures, and equate them to what the author what saying, you don't have an overpriced leg to stand on.

Apple may sell well to the millions in North America that have more cash than good sense. Worldwide, hundreds of millions are choosing configurable Intel hardware. Think of programs like One Laptop Per Child. You think they are going to waste money on Apples or are they going to buy cheaper and in bulk? • Mac iPad and then when they make a better one in a few months, they can call that the Max iPad.
