  • Sorry, but neither one of these should get over a 2.5 for compatibility. Proprietary software, no support for most lossless formats, etc. . . The Cowon S9 would be a 5 for compatibility, the Zune and Touch might be a 3.

Most of these "rounds" seem to have several qualities compacted into one that seem to give the Touch the edge IMHO. Also, in those rounds they seemed to have leaned more to the Touch's capabilities then what the actual round was judging. I think that if they made 10 rounds where SQ, Apps, and some other things were broken out into their own category, I would have trusted this review more.

P.S. Long live the companies that give you total freedom with their devices. These closed off schemes are really trying my patience as a consumer.

  • I have to agree with some of the points made here. The "editor's top MP# players" lists make no sense. On the top 5 list the Nano is second with The Creative Zen V Plus in 4th and the Clix 2 in 5th. When you look at the top flash player list though the Clix 2 is number 1 with the V Plus being 2nd and the Sony being 3rd. The Nano is 7th. How did it make second on the top 5 then!

Donald noted that they can't rank some because they haven't reviewed them yet. People turn to this site for your "expert" advise. It seems that they will find what they best MP3 player was 4 months ago. We all know how quickly the DAP arena changes and evolves, making the info here out-of-date. I know Jasmine may not be able to review DAPs the day they come out, but the lag is to long. There are so many great DAPs that need reviewed!

If you really want up-to-date opinions on current DAPs go to Head-fi.org. If you want to know what will be released 3 quarters from now, then come to cnet. In reply to: "iRiver W7 MP3 player hankers for directions"

  • You will always be missed
Just yesterday I was reading reviews on CNET and was thinking about how I missed James' great reviews and banter. I very special man. You will always be missed. In reply to: "Remembering James Kim"

  • 512 Mb does not equal 30 albums
512 Mb does not equal 30 albums. At about 4Mb per song and at least 10 songs per album, you would be luck to get 12 albums crammed into 512Mb. Until headunits reach the 4Gb mark, we will never be able to be CD or Input free. In reply to: "Flashy: Kenwood KDC-X991"
