Yeah, can someone please explain how this phone is any different? Other than being available by itself, without a contract (is that really a new thing? Can't you buy any phone w/out a contract?)? In reply to: "Google unveils Nexus One"

Agreed. I'm confused how this thing keeps getting referred to as an e-reader. I thought the whole point of an e-reader was that it has a screen designed to not hurt your eyes anymore than reading text on a piece of paper. If not, then I guess I'm typing this comment on one of my e-readers. In reply to: "WSJ: Apple tablet shipping in March"

I'm not sure a color e-reader is possible... unless your just talking about anything that you can read books on, in which case, every form of computer is an e-reader. In reply to: "WSJ: Apple tablet shipping in March"

Both options (big iPhone or small tablet Macbook) don't really offer competition to the e-reader market (which is what I'd like to see). I'm not interested in reading a book on a screen that's going to hurt my eyes. In reply to: "Will the Apple tablet be a full-fledged computer?"

He referred to his buddies. Not him. Reading. Difficult.

Does anyone know how this compares to WildBit Viewer? I haven't tried either, but am looking for a good free image viewer/editor that can play and save slideshows. I do like that Irfanview has a much smaller install executable (1.3 MB vs 8.5 MB for WildBit). In reply to: "New PC survival kit: Essential free apps for day 1"

"Based on the link you provided above, couldn't one set up a reasonably-powered laptop (with HDMI output) with a reasonably fast internet connection to basically do the same?"
That's exactly why the only use I would have with a "Boxee Box" is to bring my media collection on the road. Which is why I only care about having internal storage and don't care about streaming media capabilities.
A cheap laptop with an HDMI output works fine as a "Boxee Box" at home.

Funny that the ipod is on there. I agree with the caption that it's influential, but I don't think it's anything close to innovative, which is what the list title implies. Incredibly well marketed, pretty, solidly built, but with poorly designed software interface that still isn't as good, IMO, as products that existed before it.
I guess the whole itunes "ecosystem" is pretty innovative, even though it's pretty much the worst thing ever, IMO.
