Looks like the vehicle navigation units are lagging behind in the tech sector. It's incredible, but my Iphone does everything that my AVIC Z2 by Pioneer does and more. You would think that given the technology that's currently out there that one of the manufactures would step it up quite a bit and really offer something unique.

I'd actually like to see Apple produce a vehicle Navigation unit that has all of the capabilities of the present Iphone. In fact all they would have to do is increase the size of the Iphone screen to fit a double din, add XM radio or OnStar like features and it's a done deal, especially since there's internet connectivity. They could even add a few other features that would really just enhance the Iphone, and then call it an INAV. I would gladly pay 2k for this kind of service integrated into my vehicle.

CAN YOU JUST SEE THE FUTURE AND POTENTIAL OF SUCH A DEVICE. IPOD, INTERNET, IPHONE, Door to Door NAVIGATION, WEATHER, EMAIL, WIFI, XM RADIO, Better integrated BLUE TOOTH with external speaker. Put me on the list of purchasers I'll order one today and even charge it.

A device like this would make my job as a contractor so much easier. We like to work hard, play hard, and travel in my truck with my Giant Pooch. I drive about 42k miles every 6 months.

It would seem to me that for whatever reason, Pioneer has decided NOT to update its TRUE top of the line Elite model DEH-P980BT. This unit is going on 3 years old and I am amazed as to why it has not been overhauled. The email I received from Pioneer stated that this is still a current model.

If they had issues with the naming of the 980's replacement? They could call it the DEH-P1010BT. Since they never released a 990 or 1000. I like the OLED display of the 980. But the Bluetooth is horrendous with Nokia phones. Apparently the last gen head units had a firmware update to make them more compatible with Nokia phones.

About CES

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is the world's largest consumer electronics trade show. CES 2009 is scheduled for January 8 through 11 in Las Vegas, and it will feature thousands of exhibitors showcasing their latest tech products. CNET's team of reporters and reviewers will be at the show, covering technology's heavy hitters and previewing thousands of products before they are released to the public.

Each year, CNET, in partnership with the Consumer Electronics Association, produces the Best of CES awards at the International Consumer Electronics Show. The CNET editorial team recognizes the best new products at the show with awards in 10 categories, an overall Best of Show award, and the People's Voice award, which is selected by CNET's online audience.
