5400 rpm hard drives... thats just silly on any desktop let alone one that is suppose to be for casual gamer. at least thats something upgradable. I guess they were just clearing out inventory of unused drives from 1999

Naa, not quite. These are high performance 2.5" drives. They're designed as small form factor SATA drives - they are certainly not 1999. That's not to say that you can't upgrade them. You can always buy external eSATA drives (2 ports) - or even swap 1 or 2 for Intel SSD drives if you want. They are simple to replace.

I wonder how much a power supply replacement will cost now that it is external.

power consumption is so low, that the odds you'll need a replacement are also low.

have you guys noticed that the firebird replaced the voodoo omen on their website i guess people did not want to pay 10000 for their side mounted cpu, 100 lb gaming computer

Perhaps the Firebird packaging will inspire other alternatives attractive to a broader market where neither desktop replacement or existing tower configurations meet the needs of users other than gamers.

Let me see, you sell out to HP, then you stop doing what made you cool, you create the Blackbird (disaster), then you can't make money, get rid of Omen and now build the Firebird a computer for NOOBS. Guys, why don't you actually work with your partners, use the big budget of HP and actually do something nobody has done before. Something called innovate. Is case design innovation? Don't think so.

Please read why the system was designed. Man, a bunch of kids with no money complaining about what they can't afford anyway.

About CES

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is the world's largest consumer electronics trade show. CES 2009 is scheduled for January 8 through 11 in Las Vegas, and it will feature thousands of exhibitors showcasing their latest tech products. CNET's team of reporters and reviewers will be at the show, covering technology's heavy hitters and previewing thousands of products before they are released to the public.

Each year, CNET, in partnership with the Consumer Electronics Association, produces the Best of CES awards at the International Consumer Electronics Show. The CNET editorial team recognizes the best new products at the show with awards in 10 categories, an overall Best of Show award, and the People's Voice award, which is selected by CNET's online audience.
