i've been there too. i went through grad school with the handspring and a foldable keyboard. my cell at the time was SPRINT. The visor died. I switched to Verizon for other reasons and went for years without a PDA. Used a Palm M101 briefly and then finally broke down and picked up a Centro because of the $99 and no need to pay $30/month for data plan. Granted the Palm OS on that was old, but this new WebOS looks exciting. Just don't want to pay too much for the phone or too much for a smartphone data plan. After all, we still have our desktops/laptops and wifi cafe hotspots for those. I still want a phone to put to my face and a small unit that keeps my contacts and calendars straight.

Looking like a big step forward. They really blew it though with the orientation off the keyboard.

I`m on Sprint and they have a great network for me. I get 2.1 megabits DL speeds and like 900 kbps UL speeds. I was thinking of holding out for the Sprint Android phone...but this phone looks/sounds amazing. They did their homework. Ability to multitask well is a must for me , and this is ONE area Apple fails.

Palm has been able to keep a tight lid on this, because no one gives a crap about anything Palm puts out anymore.....until now. The UI looks interesting. We'll see. All I know if you have Android, Palm's new OS, Apple, Windows Mobile, and symbian. They all can't thrive in this market. Someone is going to go down. Prob not Apple. I think the real fight is going to be between Android and Palm long run. Apple is too draconian on their OS and its going to hurt then long term. Android...assuming their get their GUI cleaned up...its not bad, but its not as nice as Palm or Apple's is going to be everywhere. And Palm....who knows.

The ONLY competition iPhone will truly have in a few years is Android. If Motorola can get out something sleek with a less buggy Android, then i think we will have our dream phone. But for now, iPhones do rule, and the fact is that if AT&T was not the exclusive carrier... most would be using an iPhone today (if they indeed want smart phone capabilities).

What 10x apps on your mobile phone are you touting? Do i sense iPhone envy or hate? I myself am stuck using a Blackberry, because my T-Mobile plan is the best in my state. If iPhone was an option i would get one...

Palm has basically got out of life support (they should have been where iPhone is today)... we shall see what prices they offer. Sprint totally has bad service where i live... So, i guess i am indeed stuck with Blackberry and a very awesome T-Mobile price plan...

About CES

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is the world's largest consumer electronics trade show. CES 2009 is scheduled for January 8 through 11 in Las Vegas, and it will feature thousands of exhibitors showcasing their latest tech products. CNET's team of reporters and reviewers will be at the show, covering technology's heavy hitters and previewing thousands of products before they are released to the public.

Each year, CNET, in partnership with the Consumer Electronics Association, produces the Best of CES awards at the International Consumer Electronics Show. The CNET editorial team recognizes the best new products at the show with awards in 10 categories, an overall Best of Show award, and the People's Voice award, which is selected by CNET's online audience.
