Rumors start to flow pre-CES 2009 that the first Palm Nova smartphone will have a slider design with a full QWERTY keyboard and touch screen.

Who cares? I was an early adopter of Palm - 1997, and was a supporter through my Treo. But Plam is dead for me now that I have an iPhone 3G. I didn't realize how much better the iPhone was until I got it. Don't waste your time on Palm.

Ya know I heard this, "Palm is dead" stuff nearly since I got my first one in 2000. But I still see lots of folks out there carrying them, they're showing up in movies and TV shows, and have some pretty active websites devoted to their "addicts". I hope that Palm has a good product for CES 2009 but I definitely don't think their dead.
Oh by the way, meisenburger and bdoyle87, if look at the history of tech companies in the 80's and 90's, Apple Computers was "dead". Only after a little infusion of money (mainly from Microsoft), the return of Steve Jobs and the lucky success of the iPod (mainly due to iTunes) did Apple, Inc. make a comeback.

I hope the phone is good because I can then get an upgrade on my phone from my carrier, Sprint. It has second best coverage in my area after Verizon, surprisingly. (crosses fingers for Palm)

Hasn't HTC been making all of Palm's phones for a while?
I did read TFA but what OS is this phone running. It better not be PalmOS, it hasn't been ovrehauled for the last 4 or so years? With the 770w and the Pro, I think Palm is making the right moves

HTC make the Treo Pro, i think. and this new phone will not be running PalmOS, but rather a new thing that comes out today at CES at 11 PST called Nova. It is suposed to be 'amazing. It is also rumored that HTC will be making the new phone that comes with Nova.

Most of the coolest phones always go to the creep services of ATT first ... or the expensive but ok services of verizon .... i really want this phone, I like palm very much, but i dont really think it goes to sprint until another new version of this phone for att or verizon and they pass this old version to other carriers. I'm tired of this.

So does this phone have pivoting screen (potrait to landscape) or is it sctrictly a vertical slider? A dual slider (up and then sideways) would be wicked but I'm not sure if that's practical. It would definitely make this phone one of the more interesting units on the market today.

Anyone know?

The saddest part is, Palm is making NO new pdas.

So it's ipod touch for me, I guess. Not easy for an Apple hater, but what else is there?

what else is there? For many, the Treo 650 Palm OS is still quite functional. I use that and the iPhone (mine vs. company). I think the Palm OS on the Treo 650 was nice (large icons, touch screen, etc.). If the new Palm is a full touchscreen with slide-out keyboard, I may just bite.
