What games does it run with and is it treated as one or two screens by windows?

it runs all games and is treated as one screen, one very large screen
by batman823 January 10, 2008 4:43 AM PST
"Alienware also said it was running off only a single, midrange ATI Radeon HD 3870 graphics card."

it's probably just one large screen, but it's easy enough to fake it if you want that effect

It looks pretty awesome. It can really help me in Elder Scrolls 4.

My thoughts exactly!!!
by silverheart January 8, 2008 6:05 PM PST
And here I thought my 32" was might be too big.
by toysareforboys January 8, 2008 4:56 PM PST
It's treated as a single display in Windows, 2,880x900 resolution. If your game only supports say 1280x900, it'll stretch it or black bar it at your choice. Can't wait till a game supports the full resolution, and I have a system and graphics card powerful enough for it to run smooth :)

Bummer.

Having that much screen space is useless if you can't actually use all of it. though once games start useing it I won't have to worry about bullets in the ears any more.

Still being able to have several windows open side by side in windows is nice

Probably cost as much as a Bently. Well worth both. Wher do I get one? Will sing up for demo trials.

Yep, very cool, but come on people...GET A LIFE! Try spending more time in real life rather than virtual reality.

Um...I like how hypocritical this comment is. I mean, how is it that you can be commenting on something like this and at the same time bashing the people who are commenting on this?? AJShadow has definitely reached a new low in intellect.

You do realize you're on the computer right now, right?

Sometimes virtual reality is just more fun, I haven't seen any deathly cultic responses thus far...let them drool over the new toy :D

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is another form of online gaming that would benefit from a screen such as this. Some of the successful high end players in the online poker genre might even be able to afford it.

Why the hell are you looking at what it's sitting on? ADD? :P
by echo1v January 9, 2008 7:44 PM PST
If you look on the right hand side of the picture behind the monitor you can see the Alienware Rig. As a gamer this Dell/Alienware monitor is indeed a very nice. Might even better than getting a Westi, imho

Only 900 vertical? That's not even 1080 HD specs. Since I use my desktop for graphic design and gaming this monitor wouldn't be practical for me. Although just for games this would be sweet. Team this one up with some 3D shutter glasses and dang that'd be a trip.

For this monitor you will pay a fortune, nevermind the projector bulb cost if it's projector based. AND it's only 2,880x900 res. You can do LOTS better with a triplehead2go and three LCD monitors which will give you 3,840X1024 res for a fraction of the price and NO projector bulb replacement costs. Right now, a 19" LCD can be had for sub $300. The only advantage that this mon has is the absence on the monitor frames.

This would be awesome at work, too. My work PC uses two 21-inch CRTs, making the equivalent of a 36-inch wide screen 3,200x1,200 - with an annoying bar in the middle. The Alienware 2,880x900 would give almost the same resolution in reduced depth of footprint and on far less power. And it won't weigh close to 160 pounds!

Well, I was really interested in this until I went back and read that it was a DLP screen. No serious gamer would use a RPTV, especially for their PC monitor.
