Panasonic is leapfrogging its competitors again, with the newly announced DMP-BD50, as its the first Blu-ray player to be Profile 2.0 compatible.

So, it does what my $98 HD-A2 does? I know it looks like BR will win the format war, but I will miss the value HD DVD brought to the table. Now, if this model has a street price under $300, then I may have found my way to go purple. If not, I'll keep looking for the BR player to complement my A2...

wow... I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling this way. I say we wait till hard drives make there mark, it only makes sense and the topic of HD will be one longer.

Well, you might consider that the reason you got the HD-A2 for $99 was that Toshiba was selling them well below cost in a desperate attempt to win the format war. You had to know what you were getting yourself into...

His player IS inexpensive, and a good player..... except that it is now an orphan. If he's bragging.... I wouldn't.

Blu-ray. It had to win.
