EchoStar's first non-Dish DVR may be the perfect fit for viewers without satellite or cable.

I tried to get information about when the TR-50 would be released from EchoStar, but was then redirected to Sling Media. Sling Media then redirected me to Dish Network. I managed to talk to someone there, and tried to find out when the TR-50 would be released, and they said it already was as DTVPal. I mentioned that I was not interested in the TR-40, but the TR50. It seems like they have no plan to release the TR-50. They are hoping everyone will substitute the TR-40 for it and the whole problem will just go away.

To compare with Tivo, the unit should have a HDD (Hard drive). Many DVR's only burn DVD's

Here we stand at December 2, 2008 and I still can find NO new information on the release date or availability of the Echostar TR-50. I cannot wait until February when the analog signal goes away to purchase this unit.

If it is taking this long to roll this product off the production line they MUST be having all types of problems with this unit. I'm ready to throw in the towel and settle for the Toshiba DVR. It has very positive reviews AND IT IS AVAILABLE!!

I don't think this unit will ever hit the streets. It is well over a year now and still nothing! ANYONE HEAR DIFFERENT??

Why does it have an NTSC tuner? Am I just stupid or isn't that what we are about to get rid of in February? Dual ATSC tuners would be the way to go. Also it would be nice if it could work with existing services (UVERSE, DIRECTTV, DISH, TIME WARNER, etc.). The whole house dvr thing is really kind of a pain in the butt if your not in the main room with the DVR STB.

Who said this would be $49? Never, for a nice DVR for purchase.

I am familiar with Dish and EchoStar's equipment.

This 'DTVPal DVR' should be released anytime. I know it is available for pre-order now.

I think $299 is a decent price, considering this device includes 2 tuners for dual recording, watching live TV and recording simultaneously, or maybe even PIP? The EPG will be nice, and the DishPASS(scheduling recordings based on name and frequency) is always a great feature, which I'm assuming will be included here.

I'm almost positive there will not be a monthly charge. I have heard about one price for purchase and that's it.

"Monthly fees are a part of EchoStar's DNA. I doubt this will be any different."
---This isn't a receiver for monthly television service. This is an OTA converter box including a nice hard drive and EPG. If EchoStar were going to charge monthly for the equipment, I'm sure there would be a lease option.

OK, this device will not be coming to market as described. It has been sucked up by Dish Network. The price from them is pretty good but it appears the epg is theirs and requires a subscription, also QAM and OTA are gone.

I like TR-50 because it doesn't need cable. How can I buy it? and how much?
