T-Mobile rolls out Android 1.6 Donut to G1 and MyTouch 3G

Just a couple of weeks after Google released its Android 1.6 SDK to developers, T-Mobile began its official roll out of Android 1.6 (aka Donut) to T-Mobile G1 and T-Mobile MyTouch 3G owners on Thursday.

The update will be delivered to customers over the coming days, and though it's not considered to be a major upgrade to the operating system, Android 1.6 does bring a number of new features and enhancements and fixes a bug that would reboot the phone after dialing 911.

Highlights of Donut include:

  • An improved Android Market
  • Quick Search Box, which lets you search across various apps, such as browser bookmarks and history, contacts, and the Web, right from the home screen
  • Updated voice search
  • Integrated camera, camcorder, and gallery
  • Battery usage indicator

They could roll out Sacher Tort 19.00 and I'm still going to get rid of the overhyped piece of garbage as soon as the Nokia N900 goes live.

I just got the update yesterday. No probs with the updating. Had to change some settings from the "Spare Parts" app (The end key stopped working the way I wanted, had to try a different setting),

I have not played around with the new market yet, although it is easier to read, with the new brighter colors, and I like the screen shots.

All in all good.

Still not updating mytouch in pittsburgh. It's now Sunday afternoon. I should be fine though, since pittsburgh just got t-mobile 3g service last week.

I received my update on Oct 3rd 7am mst in the marsh while setting up for some duck hunting on the opener. The camera/picture integration was nice while getting some video and pics of the ducks (please add a zoom feature!). The new marketplace isn't that great though it is nice to filter paid or free apps. The added search functionality is really worth it. just tap and say call whoever to call.

# Battery usage indicator-- where is this located in the myTouch/G2 phone?

I think there is not a new battery usage indicator. Go to Menu | Settings | About phone | Battery use. You get a listing of what apps and how much battery each is using.

Its a battery usage widget. Its a little bar that has on/off switches for the major battery drains: wifi, bluetooth, gps, sync, and a screen brightness adjuster.

Got my update the other day and seem to be having issues with it, when I get my text messages from my daughter and nephew who are on my account only their phone numbers pop up no names! Deleted them from my contacts and re added them didn't help! When I send them texts it shows up in the thread as their name however when they reply it just shows their phone numbers any help would be greatly appreciated!

I got the update but it wouldnt allow me to install it, so i searched google for solutions. either way I got the update and Donut is a sweet treat!!! :D

i tried to install the new update,but every time i do my phone acts up and the update was never installed.May someone please i dont understand why this happens.Thank you
