Sit back and enjoy the ride, 3G fans, as Sony Ericsson has a new cell phone for you. The company's W760, which it announced today at CES, is one of the first handsets to support wireless broadband networks around the globe. It offers support for three UMTS/HSDPA networks (850/900/2100), and as a quad-band world phone (GSM 850/900/1800/1900), it will make calls in most countries. The tri-band 3G support is especially welcome in the United States and Canada; the W760 is only Sony Ericsson's second 3G handset specifically for North America after the Sony Ericsson Z750.

Watch the Sony Ericsson W760 video on CNET TV.

Other features include a Walkman music player with the shake control from the W580, stereo Bluetooth, e-mail and messaging, a speakerphone, USB mass storage, a Memory Stick Micro slot, personal organizer applications, and a 3.2-megapixel camera. The slider handset is available in three colors: rocky silver, fiery red, and intense black.

I just picked this phone up yesterday. It looks great and does what a general cellphone-user would ever need and more. It's a little slower that my old RAZR in terms of using the menus and changing settings, but, everything is laid out well and is easy to find. The camera takes good photos in good lighting (no flash) but the video is pretty pixelated. For people who make calls, do text messaging, and listen to music (it IS an Ericsson walkman phone!) it does all that you'd need - and looks good as you're doing it!

I got this phone as a replacement for the W810i looking for the 3.2 mpx and the 3G. What I found is this: better display (larger and crisper) but camera lost the functionality in dimmer lighting completely. So the camera has become useless to me as I like to snap on the fly pics of sunrises and indoor dance functions and it's just not happening. The lense is better hidden/protected on this phone (thanks to the slider), but the casing is less sturdy and I don't care much for the slider (it works fine, just an extra pain to me, I'm a hardcore candy bar lover...). Sound is great as usual, but the speaker is not as good of quality as on the 810 either. The main drawback is the key surface (possibly due to the slider) as the buttons are simply harder to use on the fly for texting (I just can't feel where I'm at on them without looking). Even though this is a good phone, I was spoiled by the 810 quality that I'm missing a little on this 760. The shake function is a gadget, but I would not miss it, in return I miss the quicker system response on the W810. I've been spoiled by the W810 for 2 years and this one won't measure up, so I'm actually re-activating my W810 and will keep this as my spare or maybe for the few occassions I need another walkman or a higher res camera..... :-( sorry SONY, love your stuff and was waiting all year for the W760, but it just didn't grab me....
